Style File 3.22.13 Tomboy Trend

With the launch of the Zelma Rose Bow Tie this week, I have been thinking a lot about my love of men's fashion.  I think I actually fell in love with men's fashion first.  I was definitely the only 1st grader who showed up to picture day wearing a camel corduroy blazer and matching newsboy cap.  I have my grandmother to thank for that killer outfit. I have always loved a well fitted blazer and through the years, no matter the trend, my closet has always included a classic white dress shirt, well tailored blazer and a pair of spectator shoes and penny loafers.  I guess you could say that on occasion I dress exactly the same as I did in the 1st grade.  Ha. It wasn't until I finally saw Annie Hall that it all really came together.  When I first saw Diane Keaton on the screen in an over sized white men's dress shit and necktie from her Grammy Hall, I knew I had found my first real style icon.  With the Tomboy look on trend for Fall 2013, I thought it would be fun to post some of my favorite street style looks for this week's Style File.

  1. I used to love to wear my dad's newsboy cap, and I indeed put a penny in my loafers. I can't wear most men's wear now because it looks so wonky with my curves, but I do get in actual arguments with my husband about who is going to get to wear his huge cardigans on a certain cloudy day. I wear it as a coat, with a slouchy snow hat, and a very femme dress. Viva androgeny!

    1. The boyfriend/husband sweaters are the best. I'm always game for a good sweater argument. With a dress and boots, it's perfection!

    1. Ahhhh the hats. I can't get enough either. I think I will have a 7 year old before I can get through the day without a hat being pulled off my head. Here's to the future G!
