Makeshift Society Knows How to Party

Last night was the Art of Fancy, the second Makeshift Society event, held at none other than the fun and fresh headquarters of my favorite San Francisco local paper The Bold Italic.  Makeshift teamed up with Skillshare to offer a night filled with food, fun, and demos from some local crafters, makers and all around rock stars.  With such a good time to be had, I forgot to take pictures!  Here are some shots of all the fun we had last night, courtesy of my Awfully Grand blogging partner Sarah of Portraits To The People.

Videokard Shoot Recap

Karrie Myers Taylor knows her stuff!  I love seeing a friend in action!  Yesterday's shoot was impressive for sure.  A ton of fun, but the best part was seeing Karrie do her thing.  I had NO idea what goes into making a video.  It's pretty astounding.  My Awfully Grand partner in crime Sarah, from Portraits To The People was on hand taking some killer photos. You can follow Sarah on Instagram @sarahderagon. Also, me @zelmarose and Karrie @kmyerstaylor. Here's what you missed:

And Action!

I'm so very excited for today!  My girls Karrie of Videokard and Sarah of Portraits To The People are coming by the studio for a video shoot!  If you don't know Videokard, Karrie creates beautiful and amazing video business cards.  Check out her work here.  You can even see Sarah's Videokard for Portraits To The People!

The idea started long ago.  Just kidding, try last week when a friend informed me that Martha Stewart was calling for entries for the American Made Awards.  You know of course I'm entering!  I've been wanting to get Karrie over to the studio to shoot a video for some time, and no time like the present. I like to think of it as my little video gift to Martha.  I was so happy when Karrie and Sarah were on board for the shoot!

I'll be writing more about it later on this week and you can check out live photos and tweets from the shoot today:   Twitter: @ZelmaRoseCurios and Instagram: zelmarose

Happy Monday!  I've got to go get camera ready.

Meet the Makeshift Society!  Yeah, that's me, front and center! Renegade Craft Fair Recap

Whoa.  I'm still recovering.  Renegade rocked!  It always does, and yet I'm totally surprised just how crazy and busy it is!  This year was my second summer show with Renegade and everything at Zelma Rose was different.  Display, designs, EVERYTHING.  I really made an effort this year to elevate my display and create a retail environment. I gave customers a sneak peek at my Fall 2012 necklaces and a special preview of my men's neck wear designs.  Sarah, from Portraits To The People, and my partner over at Awfully Grand, took some gorgeous shots of my booth.  Here we go!

Uppercase Magazine

Whoa Momma!  Was I thrilled to find out that my Chevron Cross Stitch Necklace is featured in Uppercase Magazine issue 14.  I've been so busy, I had not even had a chance yet to scope out Issuu and give a read to  one of my favorite magazines yet.  My pal Giselle over at Rare Device was the first to tell me.  So sweet to hear it from her!  Here's the issue below.  My necklace can be found on page 95.  I included a photo of the sweet little thing below.

Wed & Roses Blossoms

Last week I had the pleasure of getting together with my good friend and fierce photographer Sarah Deragon of Portraits To The People.  Besides being one of the best photags around, Sarah is also my blogging partner over at Awfully Grand.  We started the day over at the Alameda Antiques Faire, more on that later in the week, and ended with a Wed & Roses photo shoot.

The aim of the shoot was to create some attention getting product shots for my new wedding cake toppers. Most cake toppers are photographed on a cake, usually sitting on a table against a plain background.  Sarah thought it would be interesting to shoot the cakes like a typical model shot.  Brilliant!  It meant however that I would have to take out the old wedding gown.  If I had been married last year this would not have been a worry.  Let's just say it's been a while.  As luck would have it not much has changed since my wedding day.  I slipped my dress on and we got to work.  I'm so happy with the way the photos turned out!  For more information and custom order options, please visit the link below each photo. Without further due, here is the new Wed & Roses Look Book:

New Designs

Happy Tuesday!  Yesterday was crazy busy.  I am in the midst of finishing up a bunch of custom wedding orders and was in the monogram zone yesterday, hand embroidering more monograms than I can count.  I just love hand sewing.  It's my jam.  With so much going on, I thought I would take a minute to introduce you all to one of my brand new designs and a fun about me video I have been working on!

Here's the video that my gal pal Karrie & I have been working on.  Karrie creates these great video business cards called VideoKards.  I have been wanting to work with her for a while.  Here's what we have so far.  This is an ongoing project, here's the beginning:

As requested, I have been expanding my Statement Necklace line and just couldn't resist this beautiful new fabric.  Not only is it just plain lovely, it's organic!  The chevrons and triangles are pretty irresistible and I find myself wearing one nearly everyday, both long and short (remember most of my chains are convertible).  I just posted the listing last week and it has already become one of my most popular pieces in the shop.  I created it in three color styles.  Pink, beige, and light blue.  The differences are subtle, but notable. Here are some of the product shots.

What do you think?

The I Do Bridal event last week was spectacular.  I had a great time meeting with bridal customers face to face and taking custom orders.  A few hot items?  My brand new Bow Cake Topper and of course the Custom Initial Necklaces.

Here Come the Brides

I haven't talked about Wed & Roses in a while!  Things have been going great with my wedding cake toppers!  I'm still getting the word out, but my little wedding cake topper business is growing slowly but surely.  As I mentioned last week, I will be showcasing Wed & Roses Wedding Cake Toppers, along with Zelma Rose Bridal designs on June 23 & 24.  Here's the info again:

I'm really looking forward to my first Bridal Show!  I'm so excited to meet my couples face-to-face!

On Monday I met with Bay Area based Wedding Planner Rebecca Pfiffner of Be Hitched for a lovely ladies brunch.  If you are getting married and you don't know Rebecca, time to give her a call.  Two words, SHE'S AMAZING!  Check out her Pinterest boards for a peek at her style. I'm always re-pinning her pins to my wedding inspiration boards.

I'm also excited to announce that Wed & Roses and Zelma Rose Handmade Goods are now part of the Pink Cloud 9 vendor resource guide!   Hooray!!  I have been crushing on Pink Cloud for some time now.  These ladies are on the forefront of all things DIY.  Their Pinterest boards are rockin'! I read their blog all the time and I'm thrilled to be a part of the Pink Cloud 9 magic!
